Description

Customisable holder for tablet & phone, by putting into CD slot of Ford Fiesta 2008-2016 or Ford Ecosport 2013-2016. UPDATE on 26th January 2017: I added 2 holes in the base, so that you can insert metal rod inside for reinforcement if needed (especially for car parking under the Sun, plastic can be weakened). I also add base cutting mode, so that you can print 2 halves of the base (one normal half and one mirrored half). This thing has 3 parts: 1 base and 2 ends (2 ends are identical). Select "Base" or "End" to generate the STL file for the base part or the end part. After printing, plug the ends on the base, so that your tablet or phone can fit into this thing. Then put it into the CD slot. Both the base and the end can be customised. You can download the pre-defined base and end STL files. For olde version, there is one pre-defined base, and 3 types of pre-defined ends, all can be plugged on the pre-defined base. One pre-defined end is for device thickness of 8mm (called EndT8.stl), the other is for device thickness 9mm (EndT9.stl), and one other is for device thickness 10mm (EndT10.stl). For version from 26th January 2017, there is two pre-defined halves of a base - so you will need to print two of them - and 4 types of predefined ends of similar naming convention. If you customise the base and the end, to suit your device, be sure to use the same values of BaseWidth, BaseThickness, BaseHeight for both the base and the end, so that they can be plugged into each other. If you still find problem fitting the ends to the base, change the Tolerance. For example, if the fitting is too tight, then increase Tolerance a bit. If the fitting is too lose, reduce the Tolerance a bit. Tolerance can take negative value. If the base is too high for your device, and covers some viewable screen area, there are 2 ways to overcome: reducing the BaseHeight or increasing the EndSpacer. A third way is not changing any parameter, but adding an external spacer from your own disposal, such as a rubber/cloth inner cover inside the base. Reducing BaseHeight can also unblock view to the car information screen (especially when using this thing with small tablet or phone). Set EndSpacer to zero if you do not want to have any spacer. This thing can be easily pulled out from the CD slot if needed. WARNING: when you put this thing into the CD slot, if there is a CD inside, you can still play the CD, the thing will not tough the CD, however, DO NOT eject the CD (ejected CD will be jammed into this thing). If the base exceeds the height of your printer, you can cut it into 2 halves, to print them separately, and assemble them as shown in one of the photographs. I prefer a printer with printing height 30cm or more (probably a delta one) to print the base in one piece (for large tablet, such as 9.7 inch IPad). New version has already a mode for cutting the base into two symmetric halves. Use BaseCut as Yes, then use BaseMirror as Yes for generating the mirrored half and BaseMirror as No for generating the normal half. Car interior, under the Sun, could be very hot, so it is better to use material that can withstand high temperature. ABS is more preferable than PLA. In the new version, you can insert metal rods inside base hole for reinforcement, as shown in the last photograph. Specify the BaseHoleRadius to suit the size of your metal rods.
