NA Mazda MX-5 Miata Tweeter Bracket
Description
For NA ('90-97) Mazda MX-5 Miatas (Miatae?) equipped with factory tweeters in the upper door panel. The factory tweeter is embedded in its plastic bracket that secures it to the panel and the back of the silver-trimmed grille, and is impossible to remove. I wanted to install new component speakers in the doors, including new tweeters, while retaining the original appearance. These brackets allow for this - the tweeters snap into place in the bracket and the bracket attaches to the original grille and subsequently the door panel just like the originals. Note: I designed these around the tweeters included with the Infinity PR6500CS speakers. Other tweeters may fit, but I have no way of knowing which they might be. The Infinity tweeters in question measure just over 32mm in diameter and just under 12mm in thickness, excluding the dome. Recommendation would probably be to print in ABS and do a light acetone treatment to ensure the best possible durability. Update 28 Nov 2018: V5 adds thickness and fillets to some areas to improve durability and prevent breakage. Update 18 Jul 2020: Completely redesigned bracket in Fusion 360 to be completely parametric for easier modification, particularly of tweeter dimensions. Added .F3D file to Downloads. Update "Base Plate" sketch with tweeter diameter, and second extrude ("Tweeter Thickness") with thickness of the tweeter body (not including dome - just the part that will be in the bracket) as needed.
