Description

This is a phone dock for the Google Pixel 2 XL (with Spigen Tough Armor case), which fits in the base of the small storage area in the center console of a MK7 VW Golf/GTI/R. It provides a quick and easy connection for wired Android Auto usage. It fits entirely within the rubber liner so it shouldn't scratch anything. I own a 2017 GTI Sport DSG, for reference. I've included the tinkercad link below so you could adapt it for your setup if desired. This design was inspired by this thing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2455994 but I re-designed mine from scratch for my phone and taste. And of course, the D-Docks unit is the popular solution to this: https://www.d-docks.com/ I didn't like how bulky the d-dock was, for the sake of a universal fit. My design allows you to be able to still use most of the space in the absence of the phone, as well as the space along the side. It's also a bit pricey, and I didn't really like the requirement of super-sticky 3M tape to secure it in place. The design relies on this specific right-angle usb-c cable: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07741C7ZB It's the perfect length and minimizes wasted space. Here's the case I'm using: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07472RPZ5 Here is the tinkerCAD link: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/jCX6hL8SqHF
