Description

Attached is a GPS mount design to mount into the vent of a Honda Jazz/Fit 2014 model. The ball on the mount is suitable for Garmin 17mm connections. The mount into the vent and on the top of the dash. It is secured additionally with 2 small screws (approx 2mm dia 8mm long) into the underneath of the vent bezel. I have also included a stencil/profile of the vent shape which will not take too long to print to verify the profile is suitable for your vehicle The remix of the sunshade shown on the GPS is also available at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4083115 ( suitable for Garmin Drive Smart 50's). My remix was based on a Nuvi 75 sunshade https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1901428 Updates 3rd Feb 20:- I have reworked for an ABS version which has 2 separate pieces the ball mount and the dashboard clamp. I had to do this to get a successful ABS print of the ball. I used ABS glue to put the 2 pieces together which are a tight fit (I did run a hobby knife around the hole to slightly trim). I also used the variable layer height tool in Prusa Slicer to improve the shape of the sphere and also ran a coolish extruder temp (231C) so not to distort the ball. The last photo is the ABS version. 21st Jan 20:- Looks like PETG won't work in the Australian summer.. the mounting ball distorted slightly in the heat when parked all day in the Sun. (I think the Glass temp for PETG is about 80C) I will give ABS a go (glass temp about 105C) but I expect I might get some layer cracking as I don't have hood for the printer. 8th Jan 20:- I have uploaded an slightly increased ball size (designed at 17.25 mm) which when sliced and printed comes closer to the required 17.0 mm. Also I have put a slicer view of the orientation that gets the layering horizontal to give better friction to stop the droop in use from vibration. I also used 0.15mm layers to improve the shape of the ball. 6th Jan 20:- I have found that the GPS was drooping on the ball mount, I am still looking into it but I think the lack of friction is due to the print layer direction (ends up vertical when installed) and my use of PETG.. I have tried increasing the ball size slightly but it didn't make much difference. My work around at the moment is to put a small piece of Toilet paper into the joint to increase the friction. I will have a play with some other options and further advise.
