Description

THE DESIGN This design is a simple solution to hold the Type 2 charge port cap in VAG triplet SEAT Mii Electric, Skoda Citigo-e and Volkswagen e-up!. It replaces the VAG inbuilt solution where the cap is designed to be held in the top of the lid: according the personal experience the paint of the lid is suffering from holding the plastic cap and therefore the original solution is not optimal. There are two (2) optional models included: the one with locking tabs and the one without locking tabs. The latter one is simpler, but as its functionality is based on friction, the post printing measures are more important to make it work properly. PRINTING The model is designed to be a print friendly and it can be printed as it is – no support structure is needed. The design itself is precise, but due to fact that filament may suffer from shrinkage while printing and even the printer itself can be calibrated incorrectly, some scaling in X and Y axis may be required.. The proper measures can be tested using the charge port cap: the fit should feel relatively snug, but still easy to be attached and detached. It is recommended to print the model using a material which survives 'outdoor conditions' and is flexing enough to allow the locking tabs to work properly – my suggestion is PETG. A good layer bondage is also required to prevent locking tabs from snapping. Layer height of 0.2mm gives good result. Infill of 100% is suggested to get a solid piece. MOUNTING Mounting the holder into lid is designed to be made using a (soft) double sided adhesive tape. It is recommended to use a decent amount of tape (see the photo). To mount the holder into an optimal position, align it using the slots in the holder and the casting marks in the lid according the photo. When the holder is mounted as designed, both caps can be held in the lid simultaneously and when not occupied, the holder does not disturb closing of the lid.
